You can play this game for free on your PC, GCN, and possibly Dreamcast on Schthack servers. These instructions are only for the PC version of Blue Burst though, for the Gamecube and Dreamcast versions, you might want to visit Schthack's website found here...

here is how for the PC version of Blue Burst...

Download the game

http://www.psobb.com/downloads/client.php

then install it.

then do this.......

STEP 1:
To connect on this server you will have to edit your host file
to do so, on win nt(2000/xp/vista) go in start menu -> run
execute this line

notepad.exe c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

after in the notepad, add this line,

207.210.93.28 game01.us.segaonline.jp

and save the file

STEP 2:

making an account

to make an account you will have to fill an online form.

Online form: http://www.schtserv.com/bbreg.html

*note that all account that are inactive for 90 days will get deleted to keep the database clean.

Once you do all of this, when you launch the game, at the title screen, download the patch first, because you will not be able to enter text until you do so. You may not be able to even press the enter key at the "press start" screen, so you may have to click the left mouse button to get past that screen, something to do with the game not being patched. After the patch is downloaded, the game will automatically exit and then you re launch it and enter your account info and then you're good to play for free

Woah... Back in the day I wanted to get into PSO so bad... I finally get my online shtuff, and then Seganet goes down. >.O Maybe I'll try this out. I'll need something to do in college.

very fun game, I love it. I've been playing Phantasy Star Universe and it's not as near as fun as Phantasy Star Online. and Blue Burst has some awesome rares. And Sega offers the game download for free on that website, how sweet is that. They're more concerned abut PSU to even care about PSO anymore. PSU is one big joke. I don't know why I still waste my 10 bucks a month on it.

You can transfer characters with items from the Sega servers to Schthack's server for a fee.

some people have problems with the US patch, this might require you to use the Japanese patch.

I can't believe that I almost waste money on it past saturday...

But then I noticed that I forgot to put the money in my wallet on that moment...

Now I just need some free time to go crazy online with PSO Plus for the NGC.

it's all in a matter of opinion, I mean I like PSO much better, it just feels and plays better. It's more fun. I dunno. PSU has more thigns to do, but they're not as fun.

I tried one of the PC versions once and worked for me too...

But didn't play it cause I was just too lazy to start from zero...

Blue Burst has been my favorite update to PSO. And I've recently installed the Japanese patch adn now I can do DDWBP2 and get some of those crazy Japanese rares.

Problem with the server apparently, did you use any of the stuff from schtack's site?

ok, I've changed the IP address to the one on schtack's site now I don't get the error message after logging in, however it then just stays with a screen showing a sphere with rotating letters in it, does it take a long time to load up of something? $\-/o$

all you do is add that IP address to your host file, do not erase anything there. Also, it may be helpful to download and install the Japanese patch if you're having problems. It's on their forums. all you do is download the patch, and then extract it into your Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst folder.

As for getting my game running, I didn't download anything from Schthack site, I just registered my account on that one site, but I got the game from Sega, which is free.

I use a controller. i use my Xbox 360 controller. You can configure your controller to your liking in the options when you're in game

also make sure you download the patch at the title screen. You need to select "download patch" at the title screen. That helps too

i used to play on schthack's server. i stopped because there was way too much hacking. its so discouraging to hunt for an uber rare uber weapon for weeks/months and then see a noob with the same thing. within a week of starting up i had seen 3 noobs under level 4 with heaven punishers.

and then came the swarm of j-swords with 4 100%s. if anyone has ever played legit pso then you know my pain at hearing that
