Title: Kirby the Dream Battle

Kirby the dream battle is a kirby fighting game with gameplay very similar to Kirby Super Star Ultra
The goal is to beat his opponent with the ability and attack of the character you have chosen.
Each character has it own different set of attack from the Kirby where he appeared.
In addition, each character has 1 (or 2) ultimate technique called "Hyper" which will be available when it has its maximum ability gauge.
The number of playable character will be very numerous, all the character of Kirby with more than 2 attacks will have its place in the game!
It will be the number of ... "70" (and may still change, for good)
There will of course classic bosses in the series.

To summarize, that's a fighting game, 1-2 player, PC, which uses software "MUGEN"

I'm a big kirby fan, and this sounds like a great project. You defiantely have alot to work with because kirby and his enemies have alot of moves throughout the nintendo series.

Will there be any boss type characters?

I hesitate even to the boss ...
There will be : Whispy Woods, Kracko, Dedede (playable), Galacta Knight (playable), Marx, Zero, Masked Dedede ...
And a final boss, naturaly !

but I need help to program the boss ...

and it has will all, characters side, all helper from Kirby Super Star Ultra, enemies, mid-bosses, boss (playable and not playable), animals friends from Kirby dream land 3

That's wonderful if you can help me for make the game !!

I need you to help me for the AI of the characters, I noticed that the CPU walk towards the wall and not attack the player directly ...
and can be corrected any bug of the attacks of certain characters ...

and for the bosses, yes, I want they're like in the original games

I wish the game looks much as possible to other Kirby games

Plasma wisp fly all time, and can't slide, I would like the slide replaced by a teleportation (like Kabu) and increases the energy bar when you press in any direction (like Kirby Super Star Ultra), to make a more powerful attacks, and shooting at maximum load by pressing the button Hyper.

For Kirby, All normal attacks SSBB (air kick, rapid punch) and swallow an opponent to take his Ability for certain characters (Parasol=WaddleDee, Fire=Efrite, Plasma=PlasmaWisp, nothing for Kabu ...) (really really hard)
Or, if not possible to do, make a grab attack :
smallow, copy ability, attack, throw, lose ability. (for no ability, launch the character under star form on the wall and back to normal)

-you can turn back of the ennemy
-various attacks
-a Hyper attack (one or two)(can be original)

-Kirby dance poses for win (for normal or hero characters) (with normal music) (short and long)
-Normal win pose (for the cool or villain character)
-Sprites styles from Kirby super star ultra if that's possible

Relax. I will take it :)

But for Kirby, we will have a problem: On the Kirby series, everytime he get a power from someone, his sprites changes too.
This can't be recreated in mugen without a HUGE work, which could lead to many bugs.

My idea: after getting power from someone, if you do a certain command, he blinks, changes into his transformed sprites and change back to its normal sprites.

but, you are not forced to make the hat, just the attack, it's enough  :cool
I'll make sprites attacks without hats and color change  :thumbsup: (like the original Kirby adventure and Kirby 64)
but should also have another button for it loses the ability ... the Y button will do  :thumbsup: (medium punch)

You need to fix this code (the bold ones are what I've fixed):

The orignal character is Parasol Waddle Dee made by RandomTBush (I'm think he is a membre of the Spriter Ressources Forum)
I just change the sprites and add the hyper ...  :(
the character give me my idea to make this game ...

Initially, this character could also catch the projectile to launch them, but I delete this technique because it was a bug ... but I did not erase all the codes, which are made of another problem ...
Strangly, is impossible to make a Parasol Swing in walking back ...
I had not noticed the problem is when I reveal the demo ...
but I think Efrite and Kabu have not this problem ...  #:-S

There are some nice guys there, I even know a staff member (Ultimecia). But there are so many self-proclaimed GOD OF SPRITES that will insult anyone that aren't from their club. They had insulted even myself.

Hard criticism is okay to me, but free attacks are just nonsense

you are a great spriter and your works are good on that Spriter site.
Those people on that site are Buttheads and anything anyone does show on their site they dont like .
They mad cause your stuff looks better than theirs ,..but they dont show any of their work just other peoples.
we are all artists , wether in spriting, drawing and such.

Yes, but Box Boxer is too big, so, Kirby is not supposed to copy it ... (like Kirby game, he can't inhale mid-boss, but we can change this for the game  ;) )
The ability icon is just the ability used by the characters, and if it doesn't has a ability, it's just his face or other item which is related to the characters !
(example : Kabu hasn't ability, the icon shows its face, because it uses the ability of Kabu, same for Bronto Burt)

About the chars...we will have more :).

A new Bg that I've done: Marx stage.
On the original, the ground moves even if you are stoped, which I think its pretty weird.
So, the ground just moves if you walk. And (no on the shot) I`ve added some minor enemies and objects, to make the stage less empty

Dash Straight done. You can charge it (like in Megaman game) and below is the carge anim if you are stoped:

Some toughts about the code:

- Missing hitsparks, I've added one.
- supermoves should be numbered 1000 or more, with hyper moves numbered 3000 and beyond.
- Kabu goes to state 605 when he jumps, a invalid one.
- why 2000 of life? 1000 its enough. Sub-bosses could have 1200 and bosses 1500/2000
- The animation when it loses a life could be easily done by rotation (via code)
- many hitdefs have wrong attr. Kabu's mini kabu have S, NA, but it should be S, SP (super projectile)

2- What? He can attack the opponent just if he has enough distance from it, or it will grab the opponent.
3- the move travels far and does more damage.

-The Hyper (I noticed that if the opponent is protected, he would die in one shot ...  :o )
-a very little edit for the Happy Jump (the distance of the star and the time)
-I have add the good sounds for some moves and a shake effect also on some move
-I have edit the poweradd of some moves (the powerbar can be charged too fast)
-I have change the velocity and the hit effect of the Hadoken (in Kirby game, he is a little bit slow)
-I have add a spin sprites (Ko animation and for the grab attack)

I just changed the dash punch and the stars. The rest is the same you did.

Its not a bug. Its intentional. You need to limit how much helpers (the stars are helpes) you have onscreen, or you will fill up all your ram memory.
Plus, its more logical to have just 2 stars on the stage. You will be able to release another one just if there aren't stars on the screen.

and if we increase the duration, it would be too long ...
And normally, Dedede (for exemple) can make more stars (4 or 6 stars) if he repeating the move !

But don't worry, if you repeat the happy jump directely, there will be no more than 2 stars on screen !
And I have try with the arcade mode, the enemy and yourself have the time for hit the stars  :thumbsup:

If Box Boxer fight Bronto Burt (or a flying boss), he has no chance for hit a flying enemy (or he just use the happy jump ...)

but Boxin IS very small. And I've developed its gameplay based on that, giving him more speed and less defence

The sprites I used have the same scale of the kirby one. That custom sprites are nice, but it makes Boxin to be as the same size of Golem, which isn't true. That would not make any sense.

I think its nice the way it is.

I think its pretty done, just missing the big portrait to be converted (this will be a hard one).
This char has a armor code, just like the game version. So, you won't be able to stop its moves.
Feedback and bug test will be good, since this armor code is experimental.

I dunno which char I will make now. Dark Matter (Swordman)? Or....a DLC char for this project?
Hint: the char is blue...

Man, this project is the one I most like. Its so easy to do the chars :)

If Waddle Dee use his hyper (Waddle Dee Weapon) (that's a chop), Batafire is divided into 2 Batafire  ~X( , and the Hitbox disappears ...

and why Batafire can't put into hit move ? For me, just a armor like Hulk (or other) and possibility to break the armor after 3 or 4 attack or a throw. I would prefer like that, no ?

Straight from the Mugen docs:

attr = X,XX

The firt letter means:

S = Standing
A = Air
C = Crouched

the second one is a combination:

N = Normal move (like a punch)
S = Super move (like a hadouken)
H = Hyper Move( the moves which consumes power, like a shinkuu hadouken)

with

A = Attack
P = Projectile
T = Throw.

So, we could have this:

S, NA = Standing, Normal Attack
C, SP = Crouched, Super Projectile
A, HT = Air, Hyper Throw

and so on...

In fact, that isn't a Super Armor, like Hulk have. Its a code to make the char has just one hit state and, to archive this, we override some of the hit states.

If you took a look at its SFF, you will see that he doesn't even have all the sprites (its Boxin ones) because it doesn't need they.

This way is to make a char to be a boss type, so you can make it way easier and it can't be throw (because throws have custom states, and they are blocked).

Batafire has even a diferent code: when you hit it, you are not hitting Batafire, but a invisible helper, which drains the Batafire's life and makes it red. Why this? Because this way we can make the char moves unstoppable.

I think I already mentined it to you before about this. All the Sub-bosses will have something like that, specially the ones which are flying or are really big or have a super armor. There are a lot of chars like that on the Kirby Series. Heavy Lobster is one of those.

This is the only way to archive this. And I plan to use this feature on the other sub-bosses I will do.

This will require more work and could break the code. Even if I change the code so you can stop the move, all the chars will use something like that: you won't be able to throw or use moves which puts it on custom states.

that's complicated, this armor  @-) but why you are not add the armor on Box Boxer also ? that's a sub-boss also !

For Waddle Dee, that's a trap attack, like the Great Ether of Ike in SSBB, for avoid this Hyper, jump or run ! If Waddle dee hit you with his spear, he completely stop you and begin a long combo, he use different weapon he can used, spear, parasol, dandelion, oar, ... and I will add other move in the combo later like : confetti bomb, megaton punch, cart, ...

but, me I like the super armor idea, I not like the inbreakable armor :/ ...
If Batafire and other sub-boss is playable, this is normal, it is like another character, right?

Because Box Boxer doesn't flies and it was my first char.

About the Waddle move, ok.

About the Batafire, its hard to make and the result will be pretty the same, because he doesn't have the normal hitanims and states neither will.

If it is playable, he will still have this armor.

I think this is something not important, because the target is to have a fun character.

You need to choose: we use this kind of armor and have more sub bosses and bosses on the game, or we remove it and the chars - or you code them, because I don't want to make they in this way. Char like Wham Bam could be done only using this way. Look at NMario's Master hand, it have this.


The thing that I most like on this project is that is fun to play and its FUN to do (I've coded 4 chars into 1 or 2 weeks). To need to remove it and make it the hard way...is to remove my motivation to do they, and my fun too.

If this armor feature doesn't sounds good to you, that is okay for me.I don't want to force you into anything you don't want.
I just won't make any bosses or sub bosses anymore. But it doesn't means that I won't help you with other chars.

EDIT> We can make Batafire with a non unbreakable armor, so you can make it goes to a hitstate. But it will be still not be hitable by throws and custom state moves.

Its this ok to you?

I have find a bug, if he is versus a small character (like waddle dee) the apple explod before hit the characters ! and the appel stop also if he approach the edge of the stage, and then, the small characters can hide of the attacks.

A suggestion for you guys, leave the main characters (Kirby, Meta Knight, Dedede) to be done last. I believe they will be the most time consuming, so it is just natural that you concentrate on the enemies and mid-bosses like you've benn doing!

I have the habit of make the most forgotten chars, not the mainstream ones. This is why I've done Boxin, someone I doubt anyone guessed.
I plan to make a char from Kirby Dream Land 3 that is very limited, but is this what inspires me :)

Yeah, he really is fun to play and unique :)
Now my thoughts about him:
- when enemy receives hits while frosty runs at him it looks kinda cheaty, I think he should damage only when he falls on enemy
- his hyper looks more like  :8 + hyper button(HB) rather then just HB or HB +  :4 / :6
- you can make second hyper with HB + :4 / :6 making him rush pressed direction(or without  :4 / :6 to rush facing direction) and there he'll damage opponent while running and unstopable.
Everything else is just great!  :thumbsup:

Hmmm, maybe he'll run, then collide with enemy and fall after collide i.e. touch enemy and stop running if hadn't meet enemy then fall by himself as is now, that'll be better.

:thumbsup: good job and now I found why "He can't swallow enemy Mr.Frosty and sometime he makes damage when rushing on him, sometimes not." - when I press just attack button(AB) it makes damage on running and when I press AB + :6 to swallow enemy frosty it does no damage until he falls. If I release :6 in rushing he makes damage, if I press again - not until falls.

because Marx soul is not the final boss of the game ... marx soul is too powerful for a normal boss  :o
and marx is the sub-final boss of the game (because the sub-final is chosen randomness before the final boss)

Tested as soon as got my hands on him  ;*))
Horizontal flying hat attack could do a bit less damage and hyper could be less long and more powerfull(it just seems kinda long).
Other then that - great Cappy! Good job :thumbsup:

Mushroom spin : I now, it's not very powerful, but you have 1 chance on 2 to make 2 hit combo in 1 ! (2 hit = damage x2)
Giant form : the longer is like the Kabu's Giant form, but more speed for less power.

One thing on the sprite, there are no grounds on the shield.

Fou, I found an error on Cappy: it can't hurt BoxBoxer and Mr Frosty.

I had idea about bonus stage. If your game would have bonus stage then it could be like this:
- auto scrolling left or right, may be with increasing speed
- many scarfy enemies floating
- as in kirby games if you show them your back they'll try to bite you so if you missed hide your back  ;D
- to hits for scarfy and he's done.

Fou, about the armor error....the bug is on the Game files.

I've tested mr. frosty vs mr. frosty on my normal winmugen and it works. When I tested mr. frosty vs mr. frosty on the KTDB, it doesn't works.

Why this happens...I dunno yet.

Fou.. whats good bro. I actually like that new hyper Idea. I say its a keeper. If you do decide to change something on it, just keep it simple cause the move itself is already good eyecandy with the fx.  :thumbsup: Plus Kirby is looking very smooth in animations as well .  This project is dang good homie.  I cant wait for the finished product. i am a fan of Kirby myself so this is something i look forward to. keep up the great work your doing. :thumbsup:

Nice progress, I like those himer ideas, but how will blind(after being colored by Ado) work? Maybe like Reisen's confusion field where two copies of Reisen appears and attacks poor enemy doing same moves as player(though in Reisen's case they hit enemy in Ado's illusions may not hit, just confuse which is real).

I try to make a intro like Kirby Amazing Mirror and Squeak Squad.
Kirby is alone and All Chars come for crushed him and bring up the title.

and at the same time, I make the sprites of chars not finished yet.

I have already the stand and run animation of Prince Fluff, Rick the Hamster and Pitch the Bird.

But, I have just a doubt, What attack make for them ?

The first, that's because the stone is in the background, the chars stands on the small road in the floor.
The machine passage ... why ? That's because I made this stage custom ? the wall in the background ?
The ground and the water are animated and made lighting.
This stage is one of my favorite stage in Kirby Air ride and he going to be the Plasma Wisp stage.

Naw, nothing wrong with first one, it's just customized KDL3 stage. Dunno about transparent stones on first plane, but I can live with them :)
As for second... um... it's not because it's custom, it's because it have graphical errors and we seeing only static image. In animated version it would look cooler, but still it have errors.
1) road - it looks like if you looking on it from position over it like in dot position here _._, but like that it's flat and not under water so it should be not like
___                   ___                 ___
___ but like this ___   well, or this  ___, might look good too.
2) columns/beams - they are flat and they shouldn't, also they are on same line as bg which makes them part of it rather then something standing in front of the wall, needs some volume and probably shadow cast on the wall and/or being placed in water/on isles, not different layer under them.
3) isles - their pixel edges are too sharp, they need to be blend with water color and bg color accordingly so they don't look inserted - anti-alias.
Hope that was not that bad explanation and you'll be able to understand what I've tried to say ;D

I think we can call him "HR-D2" (Heavy Robot - Dedede 2)

HR-D1 is in kirby dream course, HR-D2 is in the cancelled Kirby Adventure GC, HR-D3 is in Kirby Return to dream land.
(I don't notice HR-H and HR-E in Kirby 64)

On a side note, I have started on a new character, Roly-Poly from The Amazing Mirror. He's nearly halfway done, considering he consists of quite a few sprites. Cross some fingers!

I love the New Stage, Intro, update to some sprites from Waddle Dee and the Boss Character. I honestly cant wait for it, but exactly when do you plan to release the new version of the game?
Will it be when all the characters have intros?
(Also, will there be a team mode soon in this game? Or like..some sort of adventure mode?)

(Another thing, will the main enemy from Kirby Return to Dreamland be in the game?)

I think I'll release the next demo this afternoon, but only Waddle dee will have its own introduction for now.
I thought a teammode, but it could pose a problem with the abilities of Kirby and boss fights...
I will try to make some stuff from Return to dreamland, I have planned to make the Leaf ability monster.

The most problem with teammode is : 1P and CPU VS 2P and CPU ...
I would prefer : 1P VS 2P VS 3P VS 4P

Les + :
- Les musiques m'ont fait retombé en enfance
- Les niveaux sont de bonnes qualités
- Les effets spéciaux du boss patisson ou paton, le verre vert géant quoi, quand il meurt ma fait penser au boss que je tuai avec fierté sur les anciennes consoles.
- Jouer avec Metal Knight est un régale
- Les attaques spéciales sont bien réalisé
- Ton jeux est vraiment plaisant à jouer

Les - :
- Il faut limiter les doubles sauts, ils sont infini et de ce fait tu peux allez en dehors de la map.
- Les attaques puissantes de base peuvent être utilisé tout le temps ce qui rend les combats très souvent bordélique, vos mieux pouvoir les faire quand la barre bleu est un peu remplie et le fait de les utilisés diminue la barre bleu, ce qui oblige au joueur de ne pas trop les utilisés pour pouvoir  avoir la super attaque (et sa serai bien).
- Bon l'ia trop facile, sa je pense que sa sera changer quand le jeux sera terminé.
- L’inégalité de puissance par rapport a certain perso, le coup de base de cappy est un peu limité par rapport a ceux de Metal Knight par exemple.

Ce que je rajouterai :
J'ai vue récemment qu'une personne a mis sur son mugen des sphères qui apparaissent aléatoirement dans le niveau à la smash bros qui te donne une attaque si tu l'as récupère, par exemple un invincibilité temporaire, perso qui deviens géant ou au contraire tout petit, perso qui à un Gun etc... Sa serai vraiment cool de rajouter cela à la version final de ton projet.

Je pense que j'ai tout dis, dis moi ce que tu en pense.  :)

Only for some time? When I have used MegaMan's hyper, he stayed frozen in place FOREVER, so I had to restart that game...

I have never say (seriously) Mid-boss chars won't be playable !
Play with a mid-boss is really fun ! That why, the first time, I have don't wanted to make a Armor for the mid-boss !
If a mid-boss have armor he will be very slow and heavy, and he will don't have a invincible state, like Mr.Frosty.
But smaller Mid-boss, like Efrite or Master green, will don't have a armor ! He will have a normal gameplay, like Kirby.

Every name on that list has full armor. When I say Full Armor, I mean the char can't be grabbed or put into hitstate.
TedHaun and Batafire have full armor.

Is anyone making Phan Phan, Gao Gao and Fire Leo? Those are chars I would like to do, but since I am away, if you wanna make it, go ahead. If you don't, wait a bit and let me make them (specially Fire Leo)

R3-D3 will need to be fought on its own stage, because I've changed the way he appears on the screen. If he stands on the floor, half of its moves won't hit. So, its like more Apocalipse now.

I still have no idea when I return to mugen yet.

I wanted mini-boss playable because is fun to play (for me) with a , actually, no playable chars from the original game.
It's just like a god mode, play with a cheap character for destroyd your enemy !!! ahahah  >:D ... mmh ... only versus a CPU, because is not cool in VS mode, if you take Waddle Dee and your friend Batafire or TedHaun, your friend have too more chance to win ...

That's what I have thinked, but notice the sprite is also in multiple part, look at the end of the sheet, I have try to do some test, but it's not very good ... I think it's because the arm and the drill are reversed.

Cool! You could take some ideas from Double from Skullgirls, she has a move where she turns into a random object and drops down, just like him!

Yes, I played the game when I had various ideas, thanks to Peacock and her technique "Shadow of impending doom".

I've added a new weapon for Megaman: Photon Missile, from Megaman V Mars. Its a missile that delays for a second before launching. This is perfect for setting up traps.

Yeap, I have all the needed weapon sprites already :) Grab buster, Salt water, Electric Shock, Bubble Bomb will be in too.

The ice stuff is easy. You just make a helper with the ice animation, which bounds the target to itself. If you hit the bounded helper, it destroys itself.

Open my Megaman for this game and search for the bubble warp code (I think). Its the same logic

The ice stuff is easy. You just make a helper with the ice animation, which bounds the target to itself. If you hit the bounded helper, it destroys itself.

The Ice, I have just do rapid projectiles, but it's well done.

His Waddle Dee uses the Spear power, just like the Waddle Dee from Return to Dreamland. It doesn't have special moves, using only button combinations.

I really like how he make the spear ! I will maybe make some edit on him and re-use some code and sprites.

Sorry for my "no activity" for the game, I got a really big problem with my studies and I lost my computer for some month, and I use the computer of my school and a friend for post some message and test some chars ^^'

Now I recovered it, will try to return to mugen o/

I have already see a edit of the Power battle/Megaman 7 sprites of megman using the Fire sword and top spin, It's in the Super smash flash 2 project.

I will try to find the sprites used or rip or remake them if I have time.

Sorry I disappeared for 2 years (Already TWO YEARS ?!!!!)
Well... after all this time I think I can say that the project is cancelled :/

I have done nothing productive and I have a bit forgot some base with mugen.

also, I seen that Nintendo has made a sort of reference to the project in the last kirby game, Kirby Triple Deluxe, with the Mini-game "Kirby Fighters". (I know, it's a Smash bros like game but I think I am responsable for this and it's make me smile !! x) )
It's pretty much what I have wanted to do with Mugen, but with platform .... and Kirby .... LOTS of Kirby.

I remember I had to finish Chilly and I think his ice stage is done.

PM if you want what I have already done and some old plan I made for the project

(I tried to keep some idea planned for the game keep the suspense, but I think it's make it more slower than anything else, anyway no longer has to be hidden. The character list, edited sprites for future characters and other small thing)

the truth is that I have not read all 16 pages of this issue, but if nesesitas someone to do the loops of tell me music and I do, I am an expert for that, just pass me the original music or tell me what song you want to search and make it your loops certainly did not know he was Oilucionista around here, I've also seen some stages of it, this forum tien big surprises. :Terry

I did want to help make this game, as my passion for Kirby is undying. But I lack the proper knowledge to create even the simplest of characters. A part of me longs to develop for this game and make it great.

But since I can't (plus I lack proper time) I'll root for O to create a bunch of characters and keep this project alive.

Here is a Hyper Move collection of the old  Kirby The Dream Battle version 3.1, one of my many projects which I need to finish someday.


Looking at some of those hypers, some are pretty cool while some are pretty bland in my view (in most cases, they weren't coded by me). As my trademark, I like things more...cinematic or dramatic, so I plan to rework many of those moves.

If you have any suggestion for any more, feel free to give your opinion.
