Title: Metalman MVC (Four Videos Added)
Post by: laspacho on August 11, 2007, 06:36:59 PM
Here is my current WIP Metalman.

I really need to update these pics one of these days since these are old and on a lot of these the right arm is not even finished.   It's colored now.  ;)

Great to be back.  :)
Glad everyone likes my work.  I have recently spent lots of time on Metalman and have lots to add and setup so stay tuned for some cool stuff hopefully soon.
The little dragon I have decided to use in a super which I was working on and stopped to work on other stuff.  Ilm probably going to do it differently here's a quick pic of what I'm thinking... I'll work on it more one day there's a bunch more I want to do before this.

Thanks for the warm welcome Ex. :) But yeah as far as the dragon helper, definitely an interesting idea so far, but I agree keep finishing up Metalmans main moves and such then work on the helper after. You may even find yourself coming up with new ideas and sues for the helper as you fleshout the rest of Metalmans moves. :) Best of luck man, lookin forward to all the robot masters. :) Maybe I should dust off my Elecman WIP and see if I can get back into it..

I mean, this has been going for a while, and so much progress has been shown.

Full character edits take time, lots of time to do.  I don't do %.  I would say he's definitely more then half done though.
It's only me (with a couple exceptions) spriting Metalman too in my free time.  Which takes lots of time.  Excursion is awesome and does the programming.
Once all my recent stuff I have done and not shown is added I'll give a full rundown of what I have completed and show some video's.
I always enjoy showing sceen's it builds up the anticipation.  I still have lots more to do before a release, and he won't be released until he is done. :)
The new stuff I'll show soon is pretty cool and should hold everyone over for awhile.
Also if anyone noticed if you look at the character portrait in my last post I made a new portrait.  Looks much cooler.

Thanks you ain't seen nothing yet.  :)

Still more to show, I need to start showing cool moves one of these days.

Why does he have a little dragon with him?

That's his little dragon buddy...  lol.
It follows like rush follows Megaman.  It gets pissed when you get hit too.  It will be used in a super when I get around to finishing it.
Something I came with since Metalman was really only in 1 game and throws blades not much to go off of, so I decided to give him a dragon.
The dragon was originally used in Megaman 2 so I thought it would fit nice.  (The little one I got was from power battles.)

Great!
He could use slashing effects(like Heidern and other charactes that use sharp blades or swords) in all of his moves!
Title: Re: MVC Metalman
Post by: laspacho on August 24, 2007, 11:52:08 PM
Glad everyone likes what they see so far.  :)
If anyone has a idea for a super port or wants to give it a try making one let me know.  I haven't had too much luck making one that looks good.

Great!
He could use slashing effects(like Heidern and other charactes that use sharp blades or swords) in all of his moves!

Metalman's basic moves don't have slashing effects, they are punches and kicks, although there is one move I want to make eventually that will need a slashing effect.   ;D  I am trying to stay in a MM2 style for the most part.  The only new type move I would like to add thats not MM2 style would be a charge up punch like the Metalman in EXE has...  Otherwise I am trying to keep to throwing blades in different ways with his moves...
I'll show some more cool stuff sooner or later, right now I'm spriting and my new stuff won't be added for a while.  I have a bunch done that I haven't even seen in game yet.  :P  Hopefully next I will work on the  charge punch and then the ducking hard kick, I don't want a slide kick like Megaman has.  Then maybe go back and re-do some of the run frames as that was some of my original work and I can do it better.
Later :)

Oh yea... Metalman looks funny as hell dancing with Michael Jackson lol

I would love to somehow change this pic, the pose would be perfect for a super port, not a easy task though, I tried :P

Here is Metalman's ducking hard kick.  I wanted to have something different then a slide like Megaman has.  So this is what I came up with.  It's going to be similar Wolverine's ducking hard kick.  I still need to finish the last sprite for it though but I had to check it out in game.   ;D

Haven't had as much time as I would have liked lately but I'm still working.  I worked on some old sprites, finished another super with the dragon, and I'm still working on the dragon punch.  Here are some screens.
So that brings the total up to 3 specials and 2 supers done.  (Not counting the uppercut and regular throw a blade)
And all the basics are done too.
I still need to finish the boots on the run frames and work on the right arm on a bunch of sprites though.
Most of this has not been programmed yet, just the sprites are done.  My goal is to do a youtube video or something by the end of the month once it all gets programmed.
Enjoy!

I don't quite know how to decide on a %.  However once all the current stuff i have done gets programmed and added I would say maybe 70% - 80% perhaps?
Thats why I just tried to say what I have done.   >:D
I still need to sprite at least one more hyper and super.  I also need to go back and work on the boots in the run frames and work on the arm thats not colored correctly on some frames too.  I am hoping to have the boots and arm done before I make my video.  It all depends on how much time I can get before then. There was a person I was chatting with about Crashman sprites on the old form.  If your still here shoot me a PM.  :)

There was a person I was chatting with about Crashman sprites on the old form.  If your still here shoot me a PM.  :)
Later!

ok!!! Good job guy ;)

I added in a bunch o' stuff to Metalman for laspacho as well as coding a few moves here and there. Here is a double buzzsaw attack he has (one goes straight, the other diagonal up) amongst other things. Laspacho will show more progress of him soon..

As promised, here is a better look at the double blade throw.  Much more to come, this is all I had time to do tonight.
Remember it looses frames when I record.  (This is the first time I did this, I'm learning.)   :)

Yep Yep two supers/hypers sprited and ready.  Will be programmed soon....   ;D ;D
1.  "The Blade Barrage"  Throws Lot's of Blades and stuff.  Actually just finished some work on it tonight....
2.  "Ride the Dragon"     You'll see.   >:D
I actually have two more in mind too that I haven't started yet they don't involve throwing blades though.
Maybe I'll think something else up that involves throwing blades at some point.  We'll see.

You might want to reduce the damage that does.  I do like how he throws them all in different direction, but they all still hit; HOMING FTMFW.

That was alot of trial and error coding. I had to balance all of the blades and speeds of them... for example, if P2 gets hit in mid air, he will get hit by the barrage, because of how I have the blades coming out and at different speeds, P2 will get hit by the majority of them and wont hit the floor until Metalman actually throws the last blade out. I am pretty proud of this move and I am learning all sorts of ways to make projectiles of sorts go in different directions. ^_^

I am doing the 98% - 99% of the spriting for Metalman.  And the Awesome Excursion is kind enough to do the programming, and help with some sprites and ideas.
I can never thank Excursion enough for helping me out.  >o:-(

I am very happy to show this update, I have wanter this hyper since I first started drawing Metalman.
Excursion has outdone himself programming this time.   >:D
It took him about a day and a half worth of coding trial and error getting it to behave and look correctly.
Here is his new portrait.  It shows up during his hyper and on his select screen. Here is the select screen view:
Here is a gif animation of his 3rd Hyper. You can move him around the screen in the air for a little while. I opted to go for the dragon/Metalman merge as it looked better than the dragon just flying in off screen.

Funny story to this, I tried to make this pose once before and ended up making his teleport in pose instead.  I didn't even realize I made a different pose then I intended for a long time.  I noticed the other day when I was looking at the old NES Metalman sprites, and I was like oh sh%t, I got another winpose I can make.   The actual classic pose.  :D

Yes and no. The little guy is, the big one... not yet. That will all be corrected prior to beta testing.

I'm glad everyone likes the newest Hyper/Super.
Now everyone knows why Metalman has a Dragon helper.  ;D
I got asked that question so many times and always said you'll see.  I was so waiting to get it completed and finally show it off.
I was planning this Hyper/Super since I first started creating Metalman.   :) :w00t:

I like it, it puts a good twist on Metal Man that makes him more dangerous then he was before...
And only people who've played Mega Man II will reconize him. Most people who've played mega man casualy dont realize there was a dragon in MM2, man i thought he was tough, i kept falling off those dang box platforms..

Metal Man was like the most cool boss of MMII i thought, and i always wanted his powers first cuz they just pw0n3d everyone, and giving him the dragon boss turns him into Wily's own Dark Knight...
Atlest in my eyes, this makes him epic.

"Love the winpose, you brought me good old memories when i played Megaman 2 in Nes.
Awesome job on the spriting from you Laspacho, great job for the coding by Excursion"
I love how it came out too.  It took a LONG time to make.   (http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x164/laspacho/metalmanbs2.gif):)(http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x164/laspacho/metalmanbs2.gif)

Maybe...  Maybe not....   ;)
That character (whomever it is...  ) will be different from the Megaman base because I think I will probably not want to edit Megaman again by that point.   This is a while into the future though.  ~X(

Metalman's most recent progress is really cool.  And is also a sneak peek at Crashman.   :O*D
I also worked on Metalman's stance as you can see in the first video with Crashman.

I said it before and i`ll repeat it now.Metalman is gonna be awesome!
But i only have a question, are you sure you want to include Crash man as a striker?
I think he has enough proyectile based move to have a striker that throws another type of them <_<|...| But it`s just my opinion,i don`t like too much the use of strikers becuase they can save you from getting hit and are spammable as proyectiles or even worse(Jill everyone?)
Anyway,keep it up!

Wow seriously. I was way interested when Metalman was started but now.. wow.. Don't even know what to say. The progress of you guys working together is phenomenal, the sprites are lookin friggin amazing, and the coding seems to be spot on. Considering its the coder behind Cutman/Iceman tho, coolness was to be expected, bu seriously Ex, methinks you've outdonhe yourself.  :) On top of that the ridiculously awesome amount of ways to use the blades definitely make Metalman stand quite tall above other projectile users, showin them how it could really be done.  :w00t: If my pc ever gets fully fixed up (which I'm very much hopin will happen this month) I think I'm gonna try my hand at dustin off my old Elecman sprites and tryin to go at it again.. Definitely inspired by you guys work. Awesome..

Thanks for the kind words Darqueness. He (laspacho) has been very receptive to any suggestions or edits I may have made in the original sprite  or whatever and that is what makes this a good collaboration. Ultimately, this is his vision, with me making it work in MUGEN.

Superb. Every time something new is posted in this thread, I find myself wowed at the excellence inherent in each showing. Everything looks top notch, and it looks like you both will delive a stellar character that does justice to the boss character.

I especially love the Crashman striker. I'm curious. After Metalman is done, do you intend to do a full Crashman character? Felt I had to ask, since your avatar suggests it as a possibility. Personally, I think it would be an awesome thing to see. Crashman always was one of my favorite Megaman bosses.

It's great to see one of the awesome bosses of Megaman 2 get his due. Again, great work guys. You can tell this will be a blast to play when completed.

Cool glad you like Crashman, I think he came out looking real cool too.
I am actually considering three different Megaman characters for my next wip.  Crashman being in those three.  At the moment I am leaning a lot more towards Crashman then the other two.  But don't quote me on my next wip yet, gotta finish Metalman first.   8)

I agree with the others, I liek Crashman comin in to assist, robot masters teamin up = win.  :w00t: Maybe you can have mroe than one type of attack for him as a striker? Perhaps the one you have which primarily attacks the lower right of the strike (presumably where the opponent is standing) and perhaps a run in where he fires forward and up for jumping opponents? (Perhaps even one being done with both weak attacks andthe other with both medium, maybe even a hyper team up with both strong attacks pressed ).. Either way, still cool stuff so far..  :)

I always thought the same thing.  Before MVC2 came out I said I wanna see Metalman and Red Skull in the game.  I knew there was no way Metalman would have made it, I would have figured one random robot boss would have made it though because Megaman was in the game.  I figured Red Skull would have definitely made it because Captain America was is in the game. Maybe you could have them grow in a hyper or something. He could lay on the ground, then the gears would get real big and then he could charge the opponent thus doing massive damage with the gears. Then they would go back to normal size while he is laying down and he get up like normal. Shouldn't be hard to draw evolving gear sprites while he is laying down then rotate them. What do you think?

You could use the body blades to do a wall climb, stick yourself up there and then like have him jump off and hit the enemy, kinda like how Vega would do in SF2
Title: Re: MVC Metalman

Maybe you could have them grow in a hyper or something. He could lay on the ground, then the gears would get real big and then he could charge the opponent thus doing massive damage with the gears. Then they would go back to normal size while he is laying down and he get up like normal. Shouldn't be hard to draw evolving gear sprites while he is laying down then rotate them. What do you think?

I was considering something like that, but then we came up with the "Spinning Buzzsaw" hyper instead.
The "Spinning Buzzsaw" came out much cooler then what I was originally tired doing.  I never showed anyone what I originally tried doing since I wasen't impressed with it.  Your better off with "Spinning Buzzsaw".

He dosen't do that but he can hang off the side of the screen with a blade.  I would snap a pic but no time today.   ;D

At this point all basics, specials, and hypers are done.  (Except for Hyper 4... almost done being sprited)
I also have arms on random sprites need to be updated with the correct coloring too.
Then Metalman's damage will be worked on, and then sound will be added.
Then beta testing will start.    :w00t:
Later.

Here is Metalman's throw. Enjoy! :w00t:
Interesting usage of the blades on his body. Come to think of it, is he gonna still have that uppercut? Cuz if so you could have him do the traditional uppercut and have that sides gear spin and cut as he rises.. Just a thought.. Great work so far man.

You mean this uppercut?   ;D
(http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x164/laspacho/Uppercut1.jpg)
I was thinking about doing something with the blades on his shoulders but his arms are much longer then the blades on his shoulders and I couldn't think of a way to do it.   ;D

Yeah I was thinkin of something similar to Darkstalkers Morrigan/Lilith, where they do the shadow blade uppercut and the blade sticks out. Your grinding grab throw had me thinking why not do a rising attack that also grinded along the side? Perhaps even change it form an uppercut to a sort of rising shoulder tackle where the shoulder gear is the most prominent part of the attack (considering everyone and their shoto brother has an uppercut  ;D). But whatever works for you man, Your WIP, your masterpiece, either way I'm sure it'll turn out great.

I found a Metalman remix that is awesome that didn't come from that siteand I am waiting to use.  I also downloaded a couple more from that site too that are pretty cool.   I'm not going to use it like you are asking, but eventually I want to try and make a stage.  I haven't tried my hand at making a stage yet to use the music with though.  I haven't had the effort to try a making a stage yet, all my free time is going into updating sprites which I did not color the arm on the first time.  I re-did so many last night, even after my post from yesterday.  My efforts will be worth it in the end though, I still have a bunch to re-do.  I got some time today too while I'm watching football.
Thanks.    :)

;D Thanks.  I would never post a WIP topic for something I wasen't planning on finishing.  I feel the same way about some WIPS.

Today I finally got a copy of the old Megaman cartoon, the only one with Metalman in it.  I hope there are some sounds and voices I can use.  Hopefully tonight I will have time to sit down and watch it.  (This cartoon is SO bad, i know it's going to be real painful to watch.)   >:D

The Dragon came out looking pretty neat...
 :w00t:(http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x164/laspacho/purplebattle.jpg) :w00t:

After some painful work I re-did everything I wanted to re-do.  I now consider Metalman 99.9% done sprite wise.
So I opened a beer and lit a smoke to celebrate.   ;D
Otherwise sprite wise there is a couple other little things to do.  Metalman only needs some additional coding and sounds to be added, (I ripped all the sounds now too.) then beta tested.  Getting real close now.

All the sprites are done.  Unless I make one more winpose....
Metalman is very playable at the moment.
However he still needs some additional coding.
And all the sounds I ripped and the sounds I was given permission to use need to be added.
Then the beta testing begins.  I am very excited.

I'm at work at the moment and can't go back and ready EVERY post in this topic, but I do want to ask a question so please forgive me if it has already been answered...the ground blade move that is in one of the animated screenshots on page one...did you decide to take out the blood and use regular hitspark when you re-did stuff? Cause it kinda clashed with the rest of the stuff used in the MvC games...and IMHO I think that they clash with his sprite style as well...blood just doesn't work well with Capcom-style animated sprites...also, it would be nice if you gave his blades more of a Capcom style look as well...like to match the way they look on his arm...I realise how much work you have already put into him so these are just opinions and suggestions...again forgive me if they already havebeen addressed...

Haven't decided yet about the "Blood / Hydraulic Fluid".  I liked how it looked actually.  At the moment it is only being used on the blades that are tossed to the ground, no where else.
The Metal blades that he throws is actually a modified sprite from Capcom's Megaman and Bass on the Snes.   ;D  I am very happy how that blade looks and I don't have any plans on changing that.  In the few games that Metalman has appeared in the Blades he throws never matched the ones on his shoulders anyways.
Hope that helped.   ;D

He looks great, when do you think you will be finished with him?
"Quote from Excursion on the Symbiote Onslaught  WIP thread."
I am in the middle of re-working him right now. His palettes were not right, nor were a couple other things. I added a block sprite (which he never had) but will not serve too much of a purpose besides being eye candy differentiating him and regular Onslaught. I am using some of Venom's attack sprites like the twirling ground Symbiote to replace the Air Sentinel attacks and whatever else I can come up with. Hopefully, I will be done sooner than later as I am also trying to complete laspacho's Metalman for release also.

Excursion is hard at work on it as we speak with the final coding.  Metalman's sprites are at 100%.  I am hoping Metalman will be finished very soon.
Here's some random screens to keep you drooling.  I haven't shown anything in a while and I'm in a mood to show off some random eye candy.  Metalman is in every screen shot though.  Please keep comments ect to Metalman, as this is Metalman's WIP thread....  ;D
This might be the last batch of screens I show before Metalman is released...  So here you go and Enjoy!     :w00t:

Maybe you should change the stance a bit, regarding that one sprite where he seems to be in mid-crouch.

I have beaten the game with many times.   :D  Right now there are some pallet issues and the sounds are being added after that it's beta testing time.   ;D

So metalman will be arriving soon to a roster near us ? This character looks like he will be pretty amazing . that airman you are working on in the pics looks even better than this guy . I think your talents improve with each megaman character you create . Keep up the good work .

Thanks.  We will see how long it takes to beta test and fix whats found.  I'm sure no one will be disappointed with Metalman, as the few people that have tried and tested have come back with nothing but great feedback.   #:-S  I learned SO much creating him.  By the end of his spriting process I had to make myself stay consistent with my earlier work on him other it wouldn't match and I would never finish hehe.  I got to do a lot more shading with Crashman and Airman.  Surprisingly enough because I have some experience under my belt now and some friends taught me how to shade, they are going much quicker.  And looks even better.  Your not going to see the shading on the Crashman Striker because I didn't think it was worth changing the sprites on a striker but you will it the full character.   =P~

I still need shade Airman's legs more when I get to it, I have just been spending All my freetime on finishing Metalman and spriting Crashman at the moment.    :)
Airman will get some love again soon.   ;)

Looking forward to Metalman's release too. It's so cool to see all of these MM bosses being brought into MvC style like this. I see Airman and Bubbleman have their own stages, though I haven't seen one for Metaman. Does he have his own stage?

I was thinking that his stage will have these walls with rotating  gears and other clockwork stuff like in the MM2 stage, but MUCH better! Hopefully this idea will work.

Very soon.
The version I will release will be more updated then the version the was included in the current release of EOH.
The next update to EOH will have this version of Metalman included.

The newer version I will release has:
MANY bug fixes, more pallets, and a totally new custom English voices and sound effects replacing the Jap voices and sounds.   :w00t:
