Title: .MP3 Plugin fixed
Post by: Lifewater on April 19, 2008, 04:53:35 PM
Ive recently been working on my mugen and mugen plugins and have resolved issues with the .mp3 plugins I have worked out bugs to the point of almost seemless play of .mp3 and sound althought Im not sure as to the increase in productivity in the other plugins I have fixed this one I was wondering had anyone else done this

So in otherwords, the MP3 files will now play without freezing and bugging every two seconds? How did one accomplish this feat?

Yeah, I would like to see proof of that.

maybe he can upload the plugins for us

Yes, that would be a good idea.

If you've done what it sounds like you've done, this is huge. Sound playback is most people's #1 complaint with Mugen, so these plugins would make alot of people happy. If you could upload them, that would be awesome!

THIS I would like to see. Sound in my Mugen often screws up, so I am waiting for your proofs.  :-w

This was posted in the "MP3 or MIDI" thread : http://www.infinitymugenteam.com/Forum_345/index.php?topic=12261.0 (http://www.infinitymugenteam.com/Forum_345/index.php?topic=12261.0)

create ini to go with winmugen(winmugen.ini)
with in dj van makes mp3 work every time

Just for anyone who isn't clear on this, you will need to use the DJ-VAN plugin for your MP3s (available with the EVE screenpack). Copy all of Lifewater's code into Notepad, and save it as *****.ini, where ***** is the name of your MUGEN executable (i.e. if you have "winmugen3.exe" in your MUGEN folder, name this file "winmugen3.ini"). Put this in your MUGEN directory.

This will work for standard Winmugen and Winmugen Plus. This crashed Mugen Hi-select when I tried it. I have not tried this with Hi-res Winmugen.

Results: For reference, I'm running Windows XP on an old Pentium 4 PC with 256MB of RAM (in other words, NOT a high-end machine!).

I've been playing MUGEN with MUGEN Plus, the Modern screenpack, and Guilty Gear XX lifebars. Less than 200 chars and about 50 stages (mostly with music). I don't have too many playback issues with this setup before trying Lifewater's plugin tweaks, but the round-start effects and voice-overs run slow and sometimes hang the whole game.  After using this, the Lifebar issues vanished, and all of my music plays every time! The game actually seems to run faster and smoother.

Now for the real test, I dug out Winmugen3 and the Unknown screenpack and loaded every character and stage I have saved over the past few years (about 1200 chars and nearly 400 stages). Trying to run this before the plugin changes... well I might get a match or two through before it died when going back to the select screen. Once, It actually crashed ON the select screen, before a single match had even started. After applying Lifewater's fixes, I ran about a dozen matches in watch mode, then took Vyn's Evil Ryu and Doggiedoo's Shin Valdoll on a rampage through Team Arcade mode. After going the distance in Arcade, a tried a few more Watch mode matches. Select and Versus screen music didn't always play, but there was no skipping or stutter. MP3 playback in the stages was silky smooth - 100% playback, no errors, no crashes!

In conclusion:  XD||

Seriously, amazing work Lifewater! I highly recommend trying this out! Mods, you might want to sticky this and/or move it to a more prominent location. LOTS of people are going to want to know about this!

Yeah. Time.

If you've got a ton of MP3s, you'll spend an hour or two converting them all. This takes about 30 seconds to set up.

Hello !! I tryed to config my mugen plugins in mugen.cfg and I have this plugins:

Quote
plugin = looptype=1, plugins/in_mp3PRO.dll, mp3, mp2, mpg
plugin = looptype=2, plugins/DJ-VAN.dll, mp3, mp2, mpg

This plugins works PERFECT in a "99%" in my mugen of 2,70GB: 1,20 GB in chars, 200MB in stages and 1GB in music ...is cool!!

I recomended use this plugins if you have any problem, but if you have any other better than my config is welcome to share!!  :thumbsup:

Time you did not create this stop giving detail about something you dont understand create a file with the code I pased and call it winmugen.ini, or whatever your winmugen is called all that other stuff yea right you need a dj_van plugin looptype 2

Copy the code into Notepad, then save it as winmugen.ini. Put that file in your main MUGEN folder. You'll need DJ-VAN.dll in your plugins folder. Set that as the plugin you are using for MP3s in mugen.cfg, and set it to looptype=2. Hope that's clearer.

mugen tops for some ticks before looping the music.

-Maybe try shutting down anything that might be running in the background on your comp. Could just be a memory issue...

Just guessing, really....

Check your plugin it may be corrupted, then defrag your computer and it should work better and increase your virtual memory if possible always good for mugen and it should work almost every time, then lets see how you have your plugins sorted in mugen.cfg are there spaces or not sometimes this can cause a issue and thanks I burner for all the extra help

plugin =looptype=2, plugins/in_mad.dll, mp3, mp2, mpg;default in winmugen

Try in mad it also works, also try to decrease your splodes, helpermax etc to minimum for maximum performance, also dosent really effect anything but if a stage still has debugbg=1 instead of 0 it uses more memory and is more prone to errors as well but try that, also check your video acceleration if its turned up turn it down and that helps sometimes too this is apart of your windows system not mugen

My only concern is will this work in vista.

I have to convert my music to ADX in order to get it to play properly without skipping and such. Got the same results with ogg in vista also.

If so then I can do high quality mugen vids on my quad.

It should help because this help improve the base program of mugen works directly with the plugin at startup of winmugen, yet vista may not interact with plugins like xp that I do not know and Im sure you do so if they do interact the same the it should work fine if not more feedback greatly appreciated

What Os are you running and by turbo music you mean it runs faster I think some other setting you may have adjusted may be conflicting you should lower all the explods, helper max to minimum, and turn unload system data on, player cache on attempt to duplicate maximum performance and it should work perhaps your plugin is also edited and may work better than others and work too well with this ini so try that and tell me what happens if it dosent work Ill turn to loops down for you this may help instead of 6 Ill make it 4 or 3 but just let me know

Im at a lost here how low should i put the explods put them at the lowest setting and you get no action evil ryu won't even throw a fireball so how low should we put the explodes with out taking away from the normal action of the chars

Does only work in part for me  :(.
A lot of times when i start a fight the music stops at a certain point, scratches and loops  >:P.
However, Mugen def. crashes less often, so thanks for this tweak, though i am still unsure if it wouldn't run better with .ogg files like i had it before.
But, since it seems to work well with other users, maybe something is wrong in my setup?

Well the original only addressed the .MP3 problem but the latest one also helps the additional plugins, also adjust the http_memory size=
124, 512, add a loop this may help, test it out for your particular computer you may be experincing other problems but this should help other wise

It's better for stages, but the problem is that I have more problems with VS. Screen and Menu Screen MP3s. They skip, have "fuzzy" quality, or just not play at all. It causes lag in those instances as well.

I tweaked a plugin long time ago to fix the mp3 issue with mugen.
I use this plugin http://www.freewebs.com/spidermew/in_mad150b.dll (http://www.freewebs.com/spidermew/in_mad150b.dll)

Music is never the cause of my crashes. Just put this bad boy in your plugins folder, and make your plugin for mp3s in the cfg file

BTW Im on vista also.

For chaning plugins you just open your mugen.cfg and you look for your old one (probably the in_mad.dill or something else) and replace it with the name of your new plugin.

ok mine doesn't have the in_mad.dill, so how do i know which one to replace?

Look through your mugen.cfg file, and go to the Sound Configuration section. There will be a section for plugins towards the end of that part of the file. Look for a line that has "mp3, mp2, mpg" at the end of it, like this:

Quote
;List Winamp-compatible plugins here.
  ;Specify the filename of the plugin and the list of file types to
  ;use the plugin for. One plugin per line.
  ;Example: plugin = plugins/my_plugin.dll, mp3, mp2, mpg
  ;
  ;If music is not looping with a particular plugin, you can try an
  ;optional first argument looptype=1 (seek to zero; may stutter)
  ;or looptype=2 (reload plugin; slow).
  ;Example: plugin = looptype=1, plugins/my_plugin.dll, mp3, mp2, mpg
;plugin = plugins/in_mad.dll, mp3, mp2, mpg
plugin = looptype=2, plugins/DJ-VAN.dll, mp3, mp2, mpg

Change where it says "*someplugin*.dll" to the name of the plugin SpiderMew posted.

I still am having a lot of problems.
*Most of the time Menu music doesn't play
*Certain MP3's ALWAYS skip
*Sometimes it'll loop the very beginning 10th of a second of a song
*This one MP3 never plays (part of the certain MP3's that Always skip)
The MP3's that always skip are found here:http://media.xiinet.com/browser/ (http://media.xiinet.com/browser/) (Brawl and Mario Kart Wii MP3s)

I have SpiderMew's plugin, those plugins the guy with the rar. posted and the Ini (proper name).
I never had all those MP3 skip problems before I got this.
I use Doubleres = 4 and have an XP system.
Oh, and the MP3 that never plays is the SSBB Sonic 360 His World instrumental remix from the URL I posted.
I renamed those skipping MP3s a smaller name.

By looking at the code you posted, you don't have Spidermew's plugin installed (in_mad150b.dll). Try using that one instead of in_mp3PRO.dll.

Since I switched to that one, I have nearly zero mp3 errors on stages. For the menus and such, I gave up and converted those mp3s to ogg. I have nearly perfect playback in my MUGEN now.

I run MUGEN on Vista and the mad_150b plugin that Spidermew kindly provided did solve my menu and select screen problem, but there was still one issue. If a character pauses the bg music (for example dan by p.o.t.s) it would start skipping until it is paused again and sometimes even cause MUGEN to crash.
So i searched for a way to fix this and found the Xillsoft Audio Converter.
Use the following settings to convert your mp3(or any other music file)

(http://img184.imageshack.us/img184/3448/14706306uh5.png) (http://imageshack.us)
(http://img184.imageshack.us/img184/14706306uh5.png/1/w640.png) (http://g.imageshack.us/img184/14706306uh5.png/1/)

Since i did that all of my mp3's work perfectly and MUGEN didn't crash since then.
I assume that would work for XP aswell, but only if you additonally turn of the hardware acceleration.

Here's proof that it works.(notice the end of the video)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67EQHx9_L3A&fmt=6 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67EQHx9_L3A&fmt=6)

Actually, it Xilisoft instead of Xillsoft.

Actually, in my initial testing this fix caused the Hi-res Select-Only Hack to behave oddly and crash. This works just fine for any other version of mugen.

To answer GodzFire's question: I don't know if this is the "norm" or not, but I do know plenty of people are running this now. Personally, I think using this fix is totally worth it! The only time my mugen crashes now is if I run out of memory. The game is so much more stable when using this.

I wouldn't doubt it crashing on that or any other particular hack

but sprite resolution in regards to the "screenpack" "char" or "stage" is completely irrelevant and you know that
