Build: Tall and “muscular”. For a robot, he lacks the typical “trashcan” appearance.

Appearance:
He is a robot, built in the 20XX by the infamous Dr. Wily. He’s tall, and he was designed to fly at incredible speeds, so he has aerodynamic jet-like wings on his back. His left arm holds his triple “Tengu Blade”, that he uses as his main weapon. His name comes from a mythical crow-like goblin (explained in the History field), hence his red, long-nosed mask. He has a humanoid complexion, but unlike other robots, no one knows if he has a human form beneath his armor and mask.

 Personality:
Just like the creature he’s supposed to portray, Tengu Man is quite “evil”. He is a real villain. He’s usually the silent type, because he doesn’t like to waste his words with those who are inferior. However, whenever he needs to confront someone, his attitude is the exact thing that Tengus are supposed to hate: arrogant, vain and pretentious. This is quite a contradiction, but then again, Dr. Wily was a scientist, not a mythology expert. In addition, he’s far from mischievous, he just likes to be the strongest robot there is and humiliate his rivals. For some odd reason, Tengu Man is extremely loyal to Wily. Unlike Bass, he follows his command and never questions his orders.

Weapons/Equipment:
Tengu Blades – His main weapon. He can use this triple blade as a melee weapon, but it’s also the basis for the rest of his attacks. Also, he is able to slash away and cast an energy blade (like Zero’s beam saber ability) with a very good range. The energy blade bounces off walls a few times before disappearing. He can also use his blades to shield himself from enemy attacks.

Jet Pack – He needs this in order to fly, and since he almost never walks, it’s always ignited. This is like a “pocket” version of a small rocket engine.

 Talents/Abilities:
Tornado Blast – Launches a gust of wind, using his gyratory blades to cast it from the distance. This attack can trap an adversary and throw him away. (For those of you who have played MM8, he performs this attack when he shouts something like “Talahassee!”.)

Tornado Hold – His blades are fired to the ground and start twirling, creating a vertical tornado as they advance forward.

Super Tornado Hold – A much more larger version of his Tornado Hold. He has to charge, in order to cast a very large tornado, capable of obliterating houses or small buildings. The size of this attack depends on how much time he spends charging before performing it (while he is doing so, his body glows with energy and his blades spin furiously). If the weather is bad, the Tornado can get out of his control (he wouldn’t care, mach 5 is useful for that kind of situations).

Swoop – Tengu Man dives from above in order to damage the enemy with his own body.

Flight – He can levitate or fly using his jet pack. His speed is amazing, reaching low hypersonic speed. (around 3000 mph - Mach 5)

Sword fighting – Although not exactly a sword, he handles his Tengu Blades with extreme expertise. He’d be a worthy opponent for a master swordsman.

Tengu Man’s defense isn’t his greatest attribute, but he compensates in many other ways. First of all, he almost never touches the ground, even when fighting at ground level. And second of all, try to catch him if you can!

He ranks as one of the most powerful Robot Masters. However, there have obviously been some improvements in Tengu Man’s design. He would easily match a Sentinel. What kind of technology did Dr. Wily use this time?

History:

Tengu are mountain and forest goblins with both Shinto and Buddhist attributes. Their supernatural powers include shape-shifting into human or animal forms, the ability to speak to humans without moving their mouth, the magic of moving instantly from place to place without using their wings, and the sorcery to appear uninvited in the dreams of the living.

The patron of martial arts, the bird-like Tengu is a skilled warrior and mischief maker, especially prone to playing tricks on arrogant and vainglorious Buddhist priests, and to punishing those who willfully misuse knowledge and authority to gain fame or position. In bygone days, they also inflicted their punishments on vain and arrogant samurai warriors. They dislike braggarts, and those who corrupt the Dharma (law).

The literal meaning of Tengu is "Heaven Dog." In Chinese mythology, there is a related creature named Tien Kou, or "celestial hound." The name is misleading, however, as the crow-like Tengu looks nothing like a dog. One plausible theory is that the Chinese Tien Kou derived its name from a destructive meteor that hit China sometime in the 6th century BC. The tail of the falling body resembled that of a dog, hence the name and its initial association with destructive powers.


After the ninth generation of Robot Masters was destroyed by Mega Man and Bass, King became an independent robot and decided to make amends. He rebuilt the ninth generation, and cleansed them of Wily’s programming virus. Mysteriously, Tengu Man was the only one who remained loyal to his master, even after the anti-virus was applied.

The team lived a short life as justice fighters, trying to repay their debt to society, until it happened. In the blink of an eye, the Wily Wars had ended, and all the Power Fighters either vanished or were put in stasis. Before attacking Light’s laboratories, Dr. Wily made sure none of his rogue creations was left on the loose. Some believe Tengu Man betrayed his teammates, handing them to Wily on a silver platter.

Now, in the 21XX, he wakes up from stasis, in the middle of the African jungle, in order to fulfill his master’s orders…

Awesome wip. Good luck on it. Really like the sprites and Tenguman is one of my favorite bosses in Megaman 8. :thumbsup:

Not bad, not bad, Mr. aPoCaLyPsE. Tengu Man's looking pretty good, so far. The outlines definitely need to be black, though.

That's a good question to ask. Anything would be better than the one he has, in MM8's English version.

He's definitely an arrogant snob, though. :P

Not Bad, For some reason the nose and arm look funny on the Second Attempt and Revival
but beside that the screenshots look good and so did the GIF. Keep up the good work.
TenguMan always seem liked one of the harder Robot Master to recreate, But you did awesome.

But of course. I was simply stating Mega Man facts. ;*))

In fact, all the robot masters have different personalities. You have to know the ones they have, in order to portray them well. ;)

Tengu Man has the right personality. He just needs the right voice actor, to bring him to life and give him a MAGNIFICENT performance, that has the right balance between awesome and obnoxious (with the scale slightly tipping towards the "obnoxious" end >:D).

Edit: From what I've heard, Tengu Man is supposed to be the strongest air-based robot master.

I'm fairly certain that he would have a few choice words to say to Air Man, on that subject...:P

Hmm... merging the two?... Well I have around 50% of my sprites done, I'm not sure how much aPoCaLyPsE got done so far. I started mine back in May but then my computer crashed in mid August and I didn't get it up and running until mid Oct, so during that time I was kind of set back a bit.

Thanks everyone for the support, the visuals are the most important part of commiting to a character and i feel I've just about got it and at a reasonable sprite rate too.

I started mine back in May but then my computer crashed in mid August and I didn't get it up and running until mid Oct, so during that time I was kind of set back a bit.

Same here, only I hadn't started on working on Tenguman prior to the inncidents leading the my half year long "vacation", but fairly recently. Though i've always had my eye on him when i was on the forums long enough to read about the new RMM project. So needless to say I'm probably not as far along as I'd like to be seeing that this project has been opened for some time now, but i can assure you he's fairly playable with most basic and specials already in DEF.

As for a merger, It's hard to tell as our sprites seem to be quite a bit different. (as I've come across in the past with outsourcing help with Angel, when another creator and I were both making the same char.) I don't know just how extensive it would be to rework the sprites to co-exist in the same character without conflict, but feel free to post a couple shots of your spritework on him here and maybe if it's usable we can make something happen.

Thanks for the share. I've already started adding the sounds thru Tenguman Def file including mutiple basic punch/kick attack grunts, special attacks sounds, first intro & the first winpose and it really does make a difference. I love the jap voices IMHO.

I can assure you in game standing toe-to-toe with megaman as well as other robot characters, he's definently tall. Infact with the stance i'm using in my sig, in game i couldn't imagine him being much bigger..tho a simple tweak of the yscale = 1.1 could always correct it.

Gotta love that professional criticism from a guy that has done nothing to contribute to anything.  =D> Smart people wouldn't exist if it weren't for dumb people I guess. Do you have anything to show us that doesn't look like butt El Boco? Before you can bash other people's stuff, you have to have made your own stuff that other people think looks good so you can actually have room to talk, if not, shut up and get to the end of the line where all the other leechers and complainers are. It's one thing to say the shading needs improvement even though it looks good how it is, but to say it blows and looks like butt is just being an a-hole. How does that help anyone? What if someone said you blow and look like butt? Would you take that into consideration for bettering yourself or just get offended due to being insulted? Look up the definition for critique, then look up critiscim. Big difference.

Sorry mods, but this stuff is getting old. Why join if you're just going to talk crap. Go join a hate group or something else that would suit you more.

On a side note, Tenguman looks really good so far. His height looks pretty accurate IMO, but I wouldn't mind seeing what the 1.1 on the y scale looks like in comparison. Also, this is just me, but I would much rather hear his english voice over his japanese ones. When my fighter is talking trash to an opponent, I like to know what they're saying. If not, maybe make both versions so people can choose. Keep up the good work.

The picture of Tenguman is at the first page, and the sprite looks like a stretched Megaman cosplaying as Tenguman. Tenguman doesn't have the same size, and shape of the body parts as the original character. Also, the shading and animations are severly lacking and scale 1.1 is a pretty retarded idea.

Some people needs to take criticism like a man, not like babies who waits only for "Nice Char +1". But it's Apocalypse, who did a poor job in Punisher, and will kill this character too.

I don't remember saying that you need to be any of those things to voice your opinion. I just said that you should at least have something to show your own skills, before you start talking crap about other peoples, which you haven't. Feel free to do and say whatever you want, I just said it makes you look like an a-hole when that's all you say and don't offer any feedback to improve. Also, who's the one whining? I'm certainly not the one complaining because someone didn't make a mugen character the way poor little me wanted it. Make him yourself if it bugs you that much. With the yscale 1.1, it's called "experimenting" with things until you find what works best.

Lastly, "Some people needs to take criticism" and "not like babies who waits" is all wrong. It should be "need" and "wait". There's other errors in there too, but I'll leave it at those two. Your grammar blows and is completely wrong. Oh wait, you're never supposed to start a sentence with "But", that one always bugs me when people do it. Sorry man, but if you're going to bash on people, at least cover your own a$$ and make sure you at least look intelligent yourself before doing the bashing.

You can fix that in Fighter Factory instead of recoloring every single sprite.

Usually, the first pallet on all my character's is the "Artist Interpretation" pallet. I tend to use a lot of "lighter then the norm" colors until things are settled. I'm no pallet artist but i'm sure with the right tweaks, it could easily be corrected.

An idea for a hyper could have Tengu Man throw a tengu fan on the ground that creates a tornado launching the opponent in the air while Tengu Man flies up to the opponenet releasing a very intense combo on them.  This is similar to Rockman 8 when Rockman is caught by Tengu Man's tengu fan.

oOoOoOo Thats a good idea! I know that one of his hypers will be "Super Tornado Hold" but I haven't incorporated how it would be implemented yet. Still working on basic and special moves ATM but I'm very eager to start moving into Hypers as more sprites become available.

I like LunaG's idea. Not only would it make him more original, but it also makes him more like how he stands normally in Megaman 8.

True, Maybe I can revise a 3rd stance or even replace the stance with the levitation sprites i have ready, but I.M.H.O, i think that the custom stance i made still outshines both the original and the levitation sprites I have avaliable. I'm quite blown away personally with how well the stance came out and didn't really have the intentions of making him have both the stance and levitation under the same sprite animation. Also, creating a levitation stance (Anim 0) can conflict with a lot of the attacks i already have sprited because of his feet positions on the ground... I did incorporate the levi-movements so he'll never be seen walking.

Seconded. I particularly like how his weapon initially deploys, so that it sorta looks like Tengu's making a rude "gesture". >:D

An idea for a hyper could have Tengu Man throw a tengu fan on the ground that creates a tornado launching the opponent in the air while Tengu Man flies up to the opponenet releasing a very intense combo on them.  This is similar to Rockman 8 when Rockman is caught by Tengu Man's tengu fan.
I know I am hella late on this. I like that idea Nila. for his special moves he should have that as well except for originality maybe he could throw one into the air that sort of detonates into a whirlwind at its peak height which most characters should be able to dash under. another crazy idea that popped into my head was to have 2 more version of what looks like the same move but has different effects such as, him throwing the disk in the air as mentioned above and having it detonate and instead of the whirlwind going up to knock them into the air its actually spirals down and if they jump (in one version it pushes them straight back to the ground into their standing animation meaning they can still move and such and the other version it knocks them straight down to the ground and deals damage. It would be a weird but effective mind game if they jump and get caught in the whirlwind and it spirals them back down to their standing animation so you can proceed with the rushdown lows to launchers or overhead if he is to have one. Best part is they will never know which one you threw out because the look the same on startup. For all variations the disk should still be out and spinning all the while the tornado is out and to make it fair while the disk is spinning you could make it so that they can be destroyed by physical or projectile attacks. IDK I have a crazy mind at times

Looking for some critz on this newly and final Power set ability: TenguBlade

It's going to be a Rapier/Beam saber attack (Since Tenguman is an excellent swordsmen) and finish with a final slash (Not yet Sprited), delivering a small sequence of hit damage.

Thanks man.

Megaman from the template files is the base, but I'm hand scaling everything. Legs, arms, body; He stands much taller and plays differently then his base. As for the blacklines, I didn't know until after i started that the black lines where as big of a nessessity, so I have re-edited a lot of the sprites with the black lining but it doesn't run thruout his entire body but mainly in the legs, arms and torso area while keeps other parts like hands, feet, shoulders and head under shaded lining. I have some examples I'll post up tomorrow along with some new stuff thats pending completion.

Got my RL things settled back down and back into the swing of things with my W.I.P's, I'll start by unlocking them one at a time.

Sorry there's only stills sprites to show at the moment, Im currently changing over my Windows OS and i dont have my screen capturing programs on here just yet.

Some of the new changes to the def:
-New Standing Heavy kick (To replace the weird modified crouching kick in it's place.)
-New Crouching light kick (Adds more frames and physical action then the previous Crouching Kick)
-New Crouching light punch (Well not new... just added more frames for fluidty..(sP?))
-New Jumping Light punch (New modified light punch to replace the previous crouching punch that was in it's place)
-New Jumping Heavy Punch (He never had one in the previous defs)
-New Move: Aerial Tackle (Anti-air?)(*Can be performed on ground and in air)

More news on the way shortly! Hopefully a video as well  :)

Especially since it doesn't seem to be a hyper, can pretty much hold the player against the wall (while giving hits), stays on-screen attacking for a long while, and giving an added on opening of attack to the actual player.. That seems like it's going to get seriously abused.

what about a "little tribute" to Lucario and Pharaoh Man?...

Tengu Man will do a Aura Slash (Lucario)
...and a Thunder Wave [Pharaoh Wave] (Pharaoh Man)

or simplily Lucario and Pharaoh Man comes and combines their attacks with Tengu Man, forming: Aura Tornado Thunder Hold...
Um, why would he do that.? I can understand maybe a nod to another Robot Master in a certain attack but why Lucario.? Just because something is liked doesn't mean it should be added in for no reason.

True story, i could always reduce the attack triggers back down to a 1-3 hit range. I have it coded so that it can't be spammed more then once a CMD, but I'll be sure to dial it down some.

Hmm... Other robot masters incorporated in the def wouldnt be a bad idea, im just tryin' to stray away from helpers outside of the ones that are found on his stage in MM8. Maybe a win pose with a good set of cameos of other robot masters with wily laughing a sinister chuckle of victory would be a nice touch of just how far the robot masters have came since the NES/Snes dazes... Good stuff  ^^(PM)^

Good Question... Im not entirely too sure.. I have been outta the loop kinda <( -^__^")>

I personally like the Powersets for the variety factory it gives Tenguman as a stand alone character outside of the project but if thats the case, we can always disable the powerset without any major issues to the def and his standard QBmotion moves.

If you ask me, I'd like more if every character had Powersets, that would've make game more unique and characters more interesting, but... it's not easy to make those and forcing every creator to make those... It'll take many time before we see game and all.
Maybe there could be compromise? Like making icons for interface that'll indicate current power or will show that there's only one...
But whatever, aPoCaLyPsE, great work on Tenguman, hope all would be setled and I could play with him  %%-
